Organisation Tips - The Car & Garage

Getting your car organised is as easy as keeping the following suggested list of items stored in your glovebox, boot or back of seat storage holders to make sure you have everything you need for things like trips to the grocery store, petrol station, beach/park or in the event of a breakdown or accident:

Singles/Couples

  • Bag for rubbish, e.g. shopping bag or disposable nappy bag
  • Documents such as registration, insurance, roadside assistance membership details
  • Hand cleanser, wet wipes & tissues
  • Manuals and instructions for things like the car, stereo, bluetooth/hands free kit
  • Mobile phone car charger
  • Notepad & pen
  • Petrol discount vouchers/card
  • Picnic rug
  • Small first aid kit
  • Small toolbox & torch
  • Shopping bags (i.e. green bags)
  • Sunglasses
  • Umbrella
  • Water bottle
Families (in addition to the above)

  • Back of seat storage for things like snacks and toys so you’re not having to pull over to get things for the kids - also great for storing emergency nappy/wipes
  • Bag with small toys, e.g. cars/dolls, crayons/pencils & colouring in book for trips to places like friends/family that don’t have children/toys
  • Ball, beach toys
  • Manuals for things like car seat & pram
  • Nappy bag with things like nappies, wipes, disposable nappy bags, change of clothes, bibs, sunscreen, etc. - remember to repack this every time you come home
  • Portable high chair seat
  • Pram, wrap/sunshade & rain cover
  • Small container/bucket that you can fit under the seat if you have a child that gets car sick
Garage Storage

There are so many solutions for storage in the garage, it’s just a matter of working out where you have the most space and going to somewhere like Bunnings to get what you need. Options include ceiling mounted/hung shelves, traditional wall mounted shelving, pegboards, racks, hooks & hangers and bike racks. If you have space in your ceiling then you can get this converted to storage by someone like a carpenter or Attic Ladders who can put flooring in and dust proof lining if you need, as well as an attic staircase to make it easier to get things in and out. For car ports, things like lockable boxes or chests are great.

If you're looking at building a house, make sure you allow some extra length or width in your garage to install some shelving and you will be eternally grateful!
